Martens Appraisal has 4 MAIs – What Does That Mean?

Four of the appraisers at Martens Appraisal hold the MAI Designation. What exactly does that mean, though?

The MAI designation is held by professionals who provide a wide range of services on all types of real property.  The MAI designation has long been recognized by courts of law, government agencies, financial institutions and investors as a mark of excellence in the field of real estate valuation.

Just like becoming a state certified appraiser, earning the MAI designation requires a long process of work experience and “rigorous” education.

To become an MAI designated appraiser, according to the Appraisal Institute, an individual must:

  • Have good moral character;
  • Be a Certified General Real Property Appraiser (or meet equivalency)
  • Hold bachelor’s degree or higher (or be a Certified General Real Property Appraiser)
  • Meet standards and ethics requirements;
  • Pass rigorous education requirements;
  • Pass a final comprehensive examination;
  • Receive credit for specialized experience that meets strict criteria; and
  • Receive credit for the demonstration of knowledge requirement.

Appraisers with the MAI designation have spent extra time and resources to educate themselves and provide evidence to the Appraisal Institute that they are experts in property valuation.

All of our MAIs also serve as mentors because they care about not only the quality of their work, but the future of Martens Appraisal.
